Fics like gladiator

Billy tries turning to look them in the face, but it's a futile attempt, one so pathetic it makes him want to cry. McVries comes to his bedside, puts a fever-checking palm on his forehead. That touch does something to Billy, and he stops fussing. It's the most lucid he's felt in a while: there are memories in his head that are recent, not just inane childhood-hallucinations. He remembers the sabotage, the kind of insurrectionist action so loathed by his father. It happened not long after Arthur Baker's death. Then came the run-for-it, ride-for-it in the rebel car, the pain and the screaming and the careening out of the world. or: The last three Long Walkers are rescued by rebels before Stebbins has the opportunity to come clean about his family situation. Forced to lie low in an isolated cabin with his former competitors, he's grappling with old demons and questioning his loyalties.
