Fics like Huckleberry: Love, Lies, and Locomotives

Eighteen-year-old Charlie Spring does not live a charmed life. His factory town is dying, his parents are barely scraping by, and his older sister, Tori, is entangled in some money-making scheme that might not be legal. Charlie's own future seems to hold nothing but dead-end jobs and a slow crawl through community college. But for a few golden weeks each fall, life gets better—because Charlie works at Huckleberry Mountain, a cheesy old amusement park with a haunted train ride that turns his boring, rust-belt life into something almost magical. For the past two seasons, he's been the backup to Mina Parsons, the hometown sweetheart who always played the lead conductor. That is, until a few months ago, when Mina vanished. No one knows if she ran away or if something more sinister happened. And now everyone’s looking at her boyfriend—Nick Nelson—as the main suspect. The same Nick Nelson Charlie's been in love with since, well, forever.
