Fics like Mediocrity is the daughter of excellence

Odysseus turned over in his hands the yellowish gold, brilliant but not like the gold he'd seen in his mother's jewelry, nor like the one he'd seen in his father's hands. This one gleamed as if sprinkled with salt. "Did you find any gold?" Polites asked, resting his head on his shoulder. Odysseus gave a low "Hmm." "What? Don't you like it?" "No, I like it. But it's not gold." Polites looked up, smiling. "Why?" *Odysseus was eleven years old. He and Polites were running through the fields where the Queen had told them not to go. Drunk with danger, they ran down the hill with a laugh that would have intrigued the nymphs. "We shouldn't be coming here!" Polites exclaimed, unable to stop laughing. "I know!" At Odysseus's words, they both began laughing even harder than before.*
