Nina Kreis was a hero to the people of Dugal-III, thought three years dead. There are fates far worse than this, however. When the wreckage of the person who was once Nina Kreis is recovered during a DoJ/HR operation, those who are caught up in the ensuing maelstrom must respond to what has become of her. Nina Kreis is a broken woman, who barely remembers who she was, or who she was meant to be. She must claw back the shreds of herself, no matter how agonizing the process. One question hangs over her head, though: Will she ever be the same person as before? Major Selene Winfield, a veteran of many wars of liberation, is forced to behold an atrocity that is new to even her. Her search for answers brings her to the depths of obsession, threatening to make what should have been a professional matter personal. Imogen Langley, the partner of Nina Kreis and once-thought widow, must reckon with the fact that the woman she loved is so very different from the shell that came back. Caught between wanting to help her one love and the urge to collapse in upon herself, she must summon an inner strength she isn't sure she is capable of. ----- Inspired by WARHOUND.
