Fics like the choice was mistaken, the choosing was not

Word on the street was that Spamton and Tenna had reconciled. The only people who knew that this rumour wasn’t necessarily true were Spamton and Tenna themselves, on account of the fact that reconciliation implied that there was some measure of open communication, forgiveness, and acceptance between the two of them. The truth of the matter was far sadder: Spamton and Tenna were the only people who tolerated the other’s company, and so they found themselves together more often than not because it was preferable to being alone. Spamton had successfully swindled, cheated, taunted, and otherwise ostracized himself from every denizen in Cyber City and TV World, with those from the Card Kingdom keeping a wide berth from him based on reputation alone, whereas Tenna was met with a mixture of callous resentment and worse still, looks of deep, lingering pity that were only garnered when one had an inadvisably publicly televised mental collapse. -- Spamton and Tenna reunite, but neither is as they remember. They manage to work it out in the sequel. Originally written for spamtenna week 2025 for the prompt: REUNION.
