Adler hiccups on a hysterical laugh. “What is this—some kind of experiment? I’m not your pet human, Ulrich, or your newest pity project. Do you even—?” Adler scrubs a hand through his hair, hysteric. The ferrofluid ripples in uncertainty. “So… you don't want to?” Adler pauses. His mouth is dry. Some tragic misunderstanding, Ulrich’s next fumbling attempt at learning compassion—whatever. Adler is a sick and starving dog. “Fine,” he says abruptly. “Let’s do it.”
