You knew Rhett Abbott before he learned to guard himself. You knew Perry before grief taught him to perform okay instead of being it. Thirteen years after a dead father and a family scandal sent you away from Wabang, you come home and the boys who once caught fireflies for you and threatened anyone who made you cry are still, underneath everything, exactly that. Older. Harder in places. But yours, in the oldest, least complicated sense of the word. That history is what changes everything. Rhett doesn't have to learn to trust you, he already does, from a lifetime before either of you knew what to call it. Perry doesn't have to earn a friend, you're already the person he reaches for when his world starts unraveling. The show's darkness is still here — but love this old doesn't ask you to earn your place in the danger. It just asks you to stay. A slow-burn western romance — Rhett/Reader, with Perry as the heart's second half — that keeps the show's plot and stakes but lets childhood devotion soften every hard edge just enough to let these people heal. If you wanted Outer Range with room to breathe, and a love story that was already halfway written before the story even starts, this is for you.
