Fics like In the Heart of the Storm

By circumstances entirely beyond her control, Dorothy Gale lands in Oz. She's told she's killed a wicked witch. She has magical shoes on her feet that she cannot remove. Her only hope of returning home is to walk for many miles along a yellow brick road, a simple instruction if not incredibly vague. Nothing is fine, but Dorothy straightens her shoulders and pretends for a moment that this is just a normal day with normal happenstances. She is alone until she meets the Scarecrow. He is her first friend in Oz. She cherishes him all the more for that.
