Fics like more than a chapter in my old diaries

after the confetti settles on high school graduation, college acceptance letters are torn open, nikki maxwell & mackenzie hollister go their separate ways—both secretly aching to be asked to stay. mackenzie trades her locker for parisian lofts and backstage chaos. her career launched faster than expected—now a budding designer whose work ends up on the cover of vogue italia. behind her curated perfection is a girl unraveling. she writes unsent letters in moleskine notebooks, sketches gowns of memories she swore she forgot, and spends nights wondering if love always meant choosing ambition over staying. nikki dives headfirst into NYU’s art scene—charcoal dust on her fingers, nights painting under string lights in brooklyn, slowly blooming into herself. she becomes known for her raw, emotional pieces—portraits of faceless girls in red lipstick, always caught mid-goodbye. she tries dating, but no one fits the shape of silence mackenzie left. they keep tabs on each other like ghosts—watching instagram stories, occasionally liking posts, never commenting. four years apart, and two candles across an ocean still being held for each other. this is a collection— and then continuation— of the chapters in between.
