Fics like spring is no more

Back in South Hui, an entire lifetime ago, they both dreamed of their very own paradise. In it, Xiao Shuhe would have died of old age, in a small cottage somewhere far outside the capital, surrounded by the scent of pear blossoms. He would have died without any regrets, unafraid to leave the mortal world after a long life well-lived. He would have died knowing he was loved by the very same person waiting for him in the Yellow Springs. He would have never died the way he did—in a cold, damp dungeon, with his back soaked in blood, a disgraced emperor of a kingdom long since fallen. or: A different take on episode 10, where the prison guards still inflict their punishment on Xiao Shuhe, but the one who suffers the most is actually Duan Zi'ang.
