She should say something. Ask Aaliyah to relax her grip. But she won’t. Can’t. Unable to look at Aaliyah or speak to her. Though she has plenty to say. So many words swimming in her mind. Pleas for Aaliyah to run away with her. Declarations of her love. Questions about what had Aaliyah in hysterics last night. It can’t just be the lie about the floor cleaning because otherwise Aaliyah would have broken down upon learning the truth about Meriem and Nabil. But maybe it was that. Maybe Cruz opening Aaliyah’s eyes primed her for an extra emotional response when she was later confronted with more of their deception. And if that’s the case, then Cruz really can’t say more about the extent of that deception. Like how she walked into the living room to find Nabil sitting at the table with an iPad or how he leapt to his feet and raced into the kitchen and grabbed what looked like a KitchenAid and stuffed it into the nearest cupboard. How he then grabbed a yellow wrapper off the counter and tossed it into the trash below the sink. How he spun around. Smiled at her. Asked if he could help her. OR Cruz tries not to break as her mission spirals out of control.
