Fics like last day in nagasaki

“Well. When facing the possibility of total annihilation, one tends to become rather surly,” Itou replied. It appeared that he had mastered the art of the English understatement. “With that said, I don’t believe you’ve answered my question. Mister Lowder, how do you feel about Takasugi-san?” “I’m afraid I’ve little idea what you’re talking about,” Lowder answered evasively. Below them, Takasugi had successfully convinced one of the Americans to pull out his weapon: a brand-new rifle, probably of the latest make. Immediately, Takasugi let out a flurry of excited Japanese, so quick and enthusiastic that even Lowder could barely understand him. Thankfully, the wide grin on Takasugi’s face was universally understood, so the Americans merely chuckled at each other rather than react with alarm. Itou’s smile, meanwhile, became undeniably wry. “Mister Lowder, trying to avoid the question is an answer in itself, you know.” John F. Lowder watches Takasugi Shinsaku from a window.
