Fics like Bloom

She marvels that whatever eventually comes out of her mouth, no matter how many times she changes it in her head, no matter what she finally chooses…whatever she says will be on that man’s body somewhere. The very thought gives her chills. And it is inevitable. She felt the mark burn the minute he closed his mouth, the second he was done uttering those damning words. She wonders what it looks like now; tiny, hideous buds of some secret flower furled in their little shells, waiting, with the patience of death itself, to come into bloom. - They’ve been there since birth, the words on her skin. Permanent and unchanging, bright and clear on her forearm: Time’s up, princess. Ominous or reassuring, she’s never been certain. It isn’t Kyle; it never will be. But regardless of whoever she’s got waiting for her down the line, she knows one thing: it’s God’s will. Six months and one road trip to Hell later, she’s not so sure she even believes in God anymore. How could a loving, benevolent Father have let her family die, let such unnatural creatures walk the earth? And why, why for the love of all that was holy, would He ever intend her for a man like Seth Gecko?
