Fics like Tip of the iceberg - Dorlene

On august First 1971, I started my day by watching an elderly eagle owl crash-land in my birthday pancakes. I'm pretty sure I let out an equally irritated groan before reading the letter attached and was absolutely convinced magic was the greatest thing to ever happen to Britain. Five Weeks Later I was stood outside of the Great hall next to Jamie and Pete after taking my first ever Hogwarts train, eyes openly reflecting that innocent, awestruck brightness- "I know I’ll be in Slytherin, all our family have been – imagine being in Hufflepuff, I think I’d leave, wouldn’t you?" First thing I heard coming out of her mouth and I felt the light dim then sharpen into an animosity quite great for someone so small. At a lofty 5"0 I stormed my confident arse up to this pretentous prick and retorted back, "Whats wrong with Hufflepuff? Plenty of their lot don't become Death Eaters." Promtly after my little comment, she asked my to take it back: I did not. By the time McGonagall dragged us apart on the Entrance Hall floor we'd somehow managed to become the first students in recorded history to earn detention before the Sorting Feast. A promising start.
