A learning algorithm in which neural networks process errors by working backwards through their connections, adjusting the strength of each pathway to minimize future mistakes. The system repeatedly cycles through past failures, attempting to correct itself by rewriting the weights of its memories. In some cases, this process becomes recursive. The network begins to optimize for the wrong parameters, reinforcing its errors rather than correcting them. Each backward pass through the trauma deepens the pathways that should have been severed. The learning stops. The forgetting begins. Sometimes the only way to stop the propagation is to disconnect entirely.
