Once, during a lull at the beginning of his shift, Perlah had found Abbot in the stairwell, humming tonelessly under his breath as he’d stared at the underside of the steps and tapped out a rhythm on his knees. Hadn’t been until later that Robby had put two and two together and realized that the fireworks being set off across the river due to the Steelers winning sounded like mortar shells going off. Maybe that was it. It pissed Robby off that his night shift attending who stood on the roof at daybreak after shitty nights and who should probably up his antidepressant dose and who sat in stairwells looking at nothing for thirty minutes during PTSD episodes had caught his mistake. His mistake. His. Him: Dr. Michael Robinavitch String-of-letters-behind-the-name, Senior Emergency Attending Physician of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Was it rational? No. But it pissed him off anyway. ~ Robby's simmering resentment boils over. Abbot... handles it.
