Fics like If love is a labor, I'll slave till the end

Rumi has always been a bad beta. She knows this intrinsically, as if it’s a fact etched into her skin as permanently as her patterns. It isn't for a lack of effort. She tries to be a good meditator, a strong glue to hold them all together. She tries to do all of the right things; she leaves food and blankets outside of their doors during ruts and handles it patiently when the alpha posturing gets out of control. She tries, and she knows that it isn’t enough, because if it was, there wouldn’t be this awful chasm in her chest. The constantly underlying want that settles under her skin whenever she’s with Mira and Zoey, or even when she's without them for too long. Betas aren’t supposed to want. They aren’t supposed to have this terrible aching feeling that something is missing. OR: Rumi presents late because of her demon blood.
