Fics like To be the Sun, You must first be a Star

"I'm the Sun Summoner. It gets dark when I say it does." - Alina Starkova, Ruin and Rising Alina, pushed out from the one place Grisha are safe by the appearance of Svetlana, decides that no one, not even the Darkling, will control her. Escaping was easy, and freedom tastes sweet. Staying gone, however? That has become far harder. With powerful enemies closing in, a crown of gold calls from the South. Nikolai has found a Sun Summoner. She's wilful, ingenious and delightfully sarcastic and sassy. His favourite twins are almost obsessed with her, and his first mate Privyet enjoys her company. He's meant to return her to Ravka, to the Darkling and his other Sun Summoner. Yet, he doesn't. Alexander doesn't panic as Alina slips through his grasp. He’s content with the other one, who adores her light, demure yet proud, and would eat out of his hand if he asked her too. He worries not as her power grows, until he realises her light is cold, and she can grow no stronger. The amplifiers do little, and she remains lesser, only able to summon light. Then he panics.
