“She went to her knees and begged me to kill her. And you ask me to just accept that? To not do everything I can to free her of this burden? How could you ask that of me, as her friend?” Celine huffs and stares out the window. “How could she even think that would fix anything?” Calm washes over Mira. She finally finds her voice. “Once again you are asking the wrong question.” “Is that so?” Celine smirks. “Then what question should I be asking?” She sounds infuriatingly condescending but for the first time Mira can see through this mask that she is wearing like armor. Our faults and fears must never be seen, right? She wonders who told Celine that. Wonders when she started to believe it. When her sister died? When she held her niece for the first time and realized that her love wasn't strong enough to forget the hate? “You should be asking yourself why she came to you to kill her and why even a small part of her thought you might actually do it.” ****** Celine wants to speak to her niece and doesn't really care whether Rumi is ready for that conversation. Mira does care about what Rumi wants. A lot.
