Fics like A Mage in the Menagerie

The Mages Guild has fallen. Ajax, a disillusioned Archmage with nothing left, casts himself into the unknown using a powerful artifact. He lands in a strange new world—one ruled by an authoritarian regime known as the State, where magic is unheard of and humans are a protected, controlled resource. Soon, Ajax catches the attention of Vennessa, a cunning hyena-like Anthro and high-ranking member of the State. Sensing his potential, she claims him as her mate under State law. Now, Ajax must navigate a world of dominance, politics, and power plays while hiding the truth of his arcane strength. But his past isn’t finished with him—and forces from his former world are already moving to drag him back... dead or alive.
