'One pair of eyes cut through all of it. It was like they were in perfect definition, and the rest of the scene in soft focus. Dark as night, but sparkling as if filled with galaxies of stars, creased with such happiness as they looked up at Nico, as if in worship at some great altar. The trophy gripped in his hands, the bottle of champagne, yet unpopped at his feet, the step itself on the podium, all of it faded to nothing in those eyes.' Gabi and Nico have been dancing around each other for months, not quite brave enough to make the jump from teammates, to something a little more.
