Fics like I don’t know freedom

He should sleep. The good Lord knows it—Eywa knows it. He needs it. But every time he closes his eyes, something tears open in his mind. Tom—dead on concrete, still in that cardboard box, burning in the incinerator seconds later. Venezuela—Davis, Reed, the goddamn comms boy with half his face off. Tsu’Tey—bleeding out on the grass, that soft breath that stopped, the way the light dimmed in his eyes. He nearly didn’t come back. And Jake... Jake nearly didn’t get to be here. To have this. This family. This peace. And peace is the scariest part. Because he’s never trusted it to last. TL;DR—Tsu’Tey had fallen asleep easily, one arm still draped protectively around Neteyam, hand resting on the tiny rise of his son’s chest. Jake, on the other hand, is wide awake. Again.
