Fics like In Plain Sight

Management is not in Jinshi's job description as an ordinary agent at the Imperial Office of Criminal Investigation. But when his irritating commanding officer assigns him to monitor a brilliant, wily toxicologist who's been investigating cold cases in her spare time, he can't very well say no. Maomao is sick and tired of her father's insistence on finding reasons to meddle with her life, but if he's going to send her yet another stupidly gorgeous babysitter, she might as well make use of him. And soon, she's not too sorry to have the help - because her harmless personal project is about to get her in way over her security clearance, uncovering secrets at the very heart of the questions both Jinshi and Maomao have spent their lives too afraid to ask. (Or: The X-Files, but make it Jinmao.)
