Elves traditionally do not love lightly, only desiring their husband or wife, the partner of their soul, for as long as they and Arda remain. But neither do Elves traditionally kill their kin, or fight a desperate, unceasing war that nobody can imagine how to win. Nor should they sacrifice themselves in single combat with Morgoth, or become thralls to Angband, or… Here, it is different. There are enough broken people, whose husbands or wives are dead, whose families are destroyed, who have had no kind or intimate touch or a place to leave their grief in centuries. She couldn’t do much, couldn’t fix the tragedies they were ensnared in, but she could give comfort, or pleasure, and when she could, in a world without much of either, she was proud to. Sex workers probably aren't very Tolkien, but neither are lots of things that the Elves did in Beleriand, so it got me thinking. What if?
