Fics like Dogs are the Best Judge of Character

Steve gets hit on a STRIKE mission and is reported dead to the Avengers and the world. In reality, a magical accident trapped him in the body of a dog and Hydra saw their chance to swoop in and capture him. No one knows he’s alive or living as a dog besides Hydra, and that has led to months of painful abuse and experiments. After a narrow escape, Steve finds himself on the streets, trying to stay hidden so he can survive. A year later, war veteran and amputee Bucky Barnes catches sight of a raggedy husky skulking around his apartment. He instantly wants to help it, but Steve has been tricked before, and he’s not about to make the same mistake twice.
