Fics like the ship of theseus is stressin' me out

“I’m not Neal.” Peter nearly bit off his own tongue with how quickly he cut himself off. “What?” The copy of Neal Caffrey flicked the safety back onto his gun. He set it on the floor, not particularly far away from him, but not within easy distance either. Slowly, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled something out. It was small and shiny, the kind of trinket that Neal loved to fiddle with during debriefs. After it was out for a few seconds, the man tossed it toward Peter. He caught it. It was a CIA badge. “Believe it or not, this isn’t the first mix-up we’ve had,” the agent said, cracking a wry smile. “Now, if you’d be so kind as to trade me your badge, I think we’ll all be able to talk this out pretty easily.” “You look just like him,” he said dumbly. The agent shrugged, looking up from where he’d been examining the badge. “Yeah, that’s something that can happen with twins.” or, Neal's identical twin is a CIA agent. It sure would've been nice to know that before they, in no particular order, nearly caused a CIA-FBI shootout, traumatized a new probie, started a food fight in the nicest restaurant in the city, and unwittingly switched places in the middle of a mission
