Buck hadn’t set foot in Oahu in over 10 years, but as he steps off the charter boat and feels the sun on his skin and smells the salt from the water in the air- he doesn’t know why he even left. Stepping onto the platform, duffel slung low on one shoulder, he takes a moment to just take in his surroundings. The sun was bright and already burning his pale skin. He’s gonna need to load up on sunscreen he thinks in amusement. Nothing could ever compare to the burning feeling in his leg as the ladder truck was lifted off of him. Nothing here would ever burn him as hard as Los Angeles and the people living there had. Not after the bombing, the lawsuit, the tsunami, the embolism. Not after Eddie’s fist connected with his jaw and the betrayed silence that was later filled with apologies that came from alcohol soaked breath. And so he left. Buck wasn’t running, not really. He just needed to start over in a place that brought him happiness. Or Buck attempts to find the happiness and love he wasn't able to in LA.
