Fics like back half

Jayce Talis hasn’t skated in 147 days. But he still comes here. Most mornings, just before sunrise. Climbs to the top bleacher like he’s surveying a holy ruin. One leg strapped in carbon and velcro. The other twitching with the echo of routines he used to run in his sleep. The ache is familiar now. A quiet, persistent hum beneath the ribs. He used to own this place. The rink, the ice, the silence. It bowed beneath him like it was lucky to be chosen. Every jump was a threat, every spin a dare. He hadn’t realized how much of his sense of self came from the sound of applause. Now the silence feels accusatory. But still — he comes. Today, though, there’s someone else on the ice.
