Something entirely foreign and jarring prompts him to say with too much incredulity: “Buck said he wasn’t in love with me?” Maddie gapes at him. Eddie snaps his mouth shut with so much force his teeth click. or: Maddie tells Eddie about the conversation she had with Buck. Eddie spirals about it.
