Fics like Shadow of Steele

When a new dog arrives in Nome, jaws drop—it’s Steele, or so everyone thinks. But the truth is far more complicated. The newcomer is Slate, Steele’s long-lost identical twin brother—gentle, soft-spoken, and nothing like his arrogant, selfish sibling. Despite his warm nature and genuine desire to make friends, Slate is instantly shunned by the townsfolk and sled team, haunted by Steele’s bad reputation. The huskies growl. The humans whisper. Even Jenna keeps her distance. Only Balto, who knows what it feels like to be judged for things out of his control, decides to give Slate a chance. Suspicious but curious, Balto slowly uncovers Slate’s true identity and kind heart. As they form a bond, Balto faces pressure from the pack and the town to reject him. But when a storm threatens the next vital medicine run and the team is down a lead dog, Slate steps forward to help—risking everything to prove he’s not his brother’s shadow. In the face of fear, doubt, and legacy, Balto and Slate must stand together to show that character runs deeper than appearances—and sometimes, the truest heroes are the ones no one sees coming.
