Fics like a world of nightghasts (and the waking world of sense)

In the land of the Enchanted Forest, even the humans have some form of magic. Theirs takes the form of their daemons, a physical manifestation of their soul. Most humans fear magical creatures for their lack of a visible soul, and most magical creatures regard humans with contempt for their daemons, regarding them as a clear liability. The Dark One falls into neither category, and both. (Or, in which the author uses a daemon au to grapple with the implications of souls and dark magic, and the Curse of the Dark One is objectively worse. This leads to some changes down the line.)
