Fics like Not Worth the Trouble

Rogue expected to die in the hands of Transigen scientists trying to unlock the secret of her mutation and graft it onto their sentinels. Only that's not what happened. She survived. She just kept on surviving. Surviving for years what should've killed her. Surviving long enough for the two people who knew where she was - and that she was alive at all - to admit the truth. Not out of the goodness of their hearts, oh no. But because they'd finally found a use for her. Otherwise, they would've left her to rot forever, or until the scientists finally found what it would take to kill her. Because, to them, to those who betrayed her and left her behind, saving her just wasn't worth the trouble. With that being the case, she didn't know why they all figured she'd be a good little girl and play along like the old Rogue would've. The old Rogue was dead and gone. They'd seen to that. And whatever remnants that might've been left, the Transigen scientists made sure to smother in the cradle. No, she was all that was left now - and she was done with just docilely playing the role others decided for her.
