Fics like Smaller

“Might surprise you…” he starts, glancing toward Soap. “Sometimes I feel small too.” Soap watches him, wide-eyed. Ghost shrugs, like he’s not quite sure how to explain it. “Doesn’t happen often. Or maybe it does and I’ve just gotten good at pretendin’ otherwise.” He huffs softly, almost a laugh, but not quite. “Sometimes it’s in the quiet after a mission. Sometimes when it’s too loud. When I’m so tired I can’t think straight, and everything feels wrong.” His eyes flick over to Soap again. “Feels like I’m not Ghost. Not even Simon. Just… some kid pretendin’ to be a soldier.” Soap blinks at him, something flickering in his expression—recognition. Relief. Ghost smiles, just a little. It’s small, but real. “So if you feel small,” he says, voice warm now, almost like a secret, “you’re not broken. You’re not weak. You’re just… human.”
