Fics like Nestled in the Dark

Jason swallowed. “She’s everything the world has killed in me.” “Well,” Leslie hesitated, voice kind, if rough, “they do say we become who would have saved us when we were younger.” Jason Todd never allowed himself to be soft. Not in Crime Alley, not with Batman, not after the pit. Then one night he finds a newborn abandoned behind a dumpster and it’s both the easiest and hardest choice of his life – because he knows how this story ends. A child left alone in the dark. A body in a cold alley. A city that doesn’t care. As Gotham’s latest rumors take a terrifying turn and the past comes clawing at his heels, Jason isn’t looking to be a hero. He just refuses to let history repeat itself. You don't need to read the rest of the "Hatchlings of Gotham" series (dedicated to the Batkids' kids) to read this one. Now with a short sequel.
