“Akira,” Goro says calmly, and Akira finally finds the strength to meet his eyes. It’s scary, but the world doesn’t end. His eyes are familiar, a comfort, and it scares him more how easily they soothe him, because no matter how hard he searches, he can’t find any concrete evidence on whether they’re real or not. Goro’s eyes are firm and genuine. In direct contrast, his calm demeanor radiates off of him where Akira knows his own terror must be pouring off in waves. Despite that, Akira can see his concern in the determined searching of his eyes, and the tension of his brows. That Akira knows that if something was totally and utterly wrong with the world around him, that if Goro had come to the same conclusions that he had, he wouldn’t be looking at him like this, makes him want to trust it so bad. That, and the feeling that he owes it to him to say something, lets him overcome himself enough to speak. “Is this…” he chokes on his words. He tries again, hands squeezing, “Are you real?” or: akira's no good, very bad, philosophy induced dissociative existential crisis
