Fics like bloodstained reflections

“I shall refine my skills and prove my worth,” Phainon decides eventually, voice hard like he is afraid that anyone would challenge the claim. His eyes blaze as he stares right into Mydei’s soul. “I will surpass you, leaving you no choice but to watch my back.” As he plays the words over in his mind, spoken like an oath, Mydei realizes he would have possibly done something very foolish were they not surrounded by his men. It should be concerning, the way he is drawn to Phainon so thoroughly after meeting him just now. He is suddenly struck by the feeling of resemblance, recalling the tale of his parents he had heard so often from Krateros. Didn’t his mother challenge the King, proving herself a mighty warrior? Didn’t his father fall in love with her right then and there, rendered immobile by her strength? or; Mydei might be a great many things. But among them all, he is still his father’s son with his weak and foolish heart.
