Fics like For King and Country | The Last Kingdom

Named after the first queen of Britain and the daughter of a savage Dane turned Frankish king, Guinivere had sworn she’d seen it all. Her brothers were groomed to be the perfect heirs, her little sister allowed to prance about the fields and her? Her first present from her uncle when she began to walk was a sword. Her second was a necklace of pearls from her mother. And she soon found that she liked both, but was told she could only choose one. One path that was set in being a wife who could be silent, subservient and a tool to pump out heirs. Another where she could choose who to give her sacred advice, lending not only her hand in an alliance to last generations but her heart. She was determined to be great, and if through that path was choosing to marry a bastard boy who would be God’s King, then so be it.
