When the federation wants them to initiate contact with a telepathic race that only allows couples to speak, Jim and Spock have to convince the entire crew that they're in a relationship. That's easy. The hard part is keeping it fake, especially when it turns out that Spock's mind accidentally attached itself to Jim's god-knows-how-long-ago and now they have a whole nother mess to untangle. At least the aliens are nice.
