Usopp didn’t say anything, instead just pointing at Luffy’s soulmark. He blinked down at it in amazement. It wasn’t black anymore. It was a deep blue, gleaming metallic under the harsh lights of the cabin. “Oh! WOW!” he exclaimed. “When did that happen?” “When did… Luffy, are you serious?” “Why should I know?” “…they said it to your face!” “Oh yeah! Hmm…” Luffy paused, squinting harder at the words. “I don’t remember.” ——— Everyone says that soulmates are a special, wonderful thing, and Luffy believes that wholeheartedly. But no one seems able to describe what makes them so different from the many, many other people Luffy’s loved in his life. And he was fine not knowing right up until his own words finally lit up. Now, not only doesn’t he understand what they stand for, but he doesn’t even remember who said them to him! And each passing day makes it less and less likely that he’ll find out. Oh well, Robin says these things eventually sort themselves out. He can only hope that she’s right (she usually is).
