Fics like I’d Sneak Up Behind You And Set You Free

Three years after his resurrection, Jason Todd did what he set out to do: kill the Joker. He’s hellbent on purging Gotham City of its injustices—and he’s alienated himself from his family, leaving Laura, a childhood friend, in the dark about his return. After Joker’s murder, Gotham persists in the way it always does—fevered or iced in, it ardently pursues its depravity & chaos. Jason stalks the city’s underbelly, hunting down the embers of a drug war he unwittingly helped ignite. The fires the Joker started are still burning—and they rise against the Red Hood’s wrath. Meanwhile, something sinister is bleeding back into circulation: fear toxin is lacing the Joker’s 'Candy'—like a sick, last-laugh. Laura Bailey works as a children’s librarian at Gotham Public Library. She used to feel—now, she does her best to numb it away. She tries not to remember the boy who came into her life like a storm back at Gotham West High—or how he left it, grievously, two years later by the hands of a psychotic clown. She doesn’t know he’s alive. He doesn’t seem intent on telling her. But when terror resurfaces in Gotham, the past won’t stay buried—and neither will what’s always existed between them.
