Fics like Strangers in a Broken World

The war is over, the Elders are dead, and much of the world lies in ruin. New clashes with old in distant battlefields, while most still struggle to get by. Isolation may be the best hope for survival, or should one be open minded of the new world? Who's to say. Even so, humans are naturally social creatures, struggling greatly if deprived of companionship. Fifteen years of isolation would be enough to drive most men mad, for example. But then, perhaps Edmund was already mad? For why else would one be so acceptant of unseen things, waiting and watching from the dark corners of the mountain forests? What's a man to do when the shadows are the only real company he's had for such a long time? Resist the unknown, or explore and embrace it? It would be safer to avoid it, true, but perhaps he's been lonely long enough. The worst it could do was kill him, right? But then again, all actions have their consequences... TL;DR A lonely man is being stalked by a Viper(?) in the mountains. Stuff happens.
