Fics like For What Could Have Been

His anger grew until it burned like a roaring flame. Why couldn’t Charles just stay out of the way for once? Why did he insist on engaging him in this meaningless dance of warring ideals every time Erik did what he must to protect their race but do nothing as their own people were rounded up and butchered? The fact that Charles thought he had the moral high ground here was maddening. There was a nagging worry in the back of his mind, though. Putting the president and his men to sleep wasn’t Charles’s usual style. It reeked of wrongness and desperation. Why wasn’t Charles freezing them in place and making himself known by putting his body in front of the line of fire to plead with him like he did back at the White House? That was Charles’s go to move, so where was he? *** aka what may have happened at the end of Days of Future Past if Charles had been more injured by the beam that fell on him from the stadium at the end of the movie
