Fics like The Sound of Happiness

After a nightmare, Shadow goes to Sonic to confirm he's still alive. Sonic provides Shadow comfort by cuddling with him and also making that rumbling noise that Shadow likes to hear. Sonic is finally given a chance to take care of Shadow. As he brushes the ebony hedgehog's fur, he receives the honor of hearing Shadow purr... except it completely freaks Shadow out for reasons Sonic doesn't immediately understand. - Post-Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (but in a non-canon AU where Shadow's backstory is more like the game one) Trigger Warning: Nightmare, vague references to Shadow's past
