Fics like to swim through the fires – to stay in this world

Viktor never escapes the Undercity. He never finds his way to Piltover's Academy. He never takes a job with Heimerdinger and dreams of bigger things. Instead, after ten years as Singed's apprentice, he finds two lost children on the worst night of their lives and gives them a home. In many ways, this changes everything. In others, it changes nothing at all. “No. You’re going to do something much worse than killing Silco,” Viktor tells Benzo’s ward. “He wants you dead. Out of his path, as he continues to forge forward. Instead, you’re going to survive.” Viktor offers the boy his hand. “We are obstacles. All three of us. We’ll take care of each other." I’ll keep him alive. I’ll keep them both alive, he offers Benzo’s ghost. Vander’s, too. A meager attempt at atonement, perhaps, but it's the last thing he has left to give.
