Fics like Brotherhood by Any Other Name (The Ship of Fools)

Ah, the Herons. The brotherband that was never supposed to work, and somehow—against all logic—does... if by “work,” you mean “sink into a pit of awkwardness, bickering, and questionable decisions.” Their ship was built by Hal himself, and it shows. It’s small. Not small in the sense of “cozy” or “compact,” but small in the sense of “barely big enough for a handful of people, much less one girl, an old man, and eight rowdy lads who have the attention span of a drunk berserker.” Through all the madness, though, there’s one thing that holds this ragtag crew together: loyalty. Sure, they can’t agree on anything. Sure, they argue, bicker, and make Hal’s life one long, ongoing headache. But when the sea grows rough or enemies come calling, there’s no one else they’d rather stand beside. The only question left is: Will they survive long enough to prove that this miserable ship—and this even more miserable crew—was ever worth it?
