Fics like leaving only rust behind

Tommy is fourteen now. The last house was one of the worst, and Tommy’s pretty sure he’s gonna be feeling it all through his body for a while, but he gave out as good as he got. He’s not gonna take that shit lying down ever again. “You’re going to be safe in this house, Tommy.” His new social worker’s voice is gentle. Puffy’s not watching him- kind of can’t be, when she’s driving. “I can promise you that.” Tommy doesn’t tell her that he doesn’t trust social workers anymore. He can’t trust that the newest foster parents won’t hurt him. “I’ve placed quite a few kids here,” she continues. “I know it might be hard to believe right now, but the parents are good people, and they’re going to take really good care of you.”
