Øystein is seven the first time he meets Pelle. Nothing about his baby cousin stands out. He's chubby and blond with big, oddly empty brown eyes. He’s a handful of inches shorter than Øystein. He's quiet and follows Øystein's lead when they play, and that's about all Øystein can remember. Ten years later, when they meet for the second time, Pelle is decidedly different.
