Fics like How Do I Love Thee?

The first letter arrived right to Tim's desk. He didn’t think much of it at first. It was a plain white thing, a tidy little card tucked unobtrusively in amongst the stack of memos and reports from other departments that his secretary had left on his desk. He spent several minutes getting settled before he even really glanced at it. Finally, he began scanning his stack, zeroing in on the card only because it looked more interesting than a memo. The cardstock was good quality. It landed in his palm with a satisfying schlak. The handwriting on the card was… odd. Neat, perfectly legible, but shaky - like a child anxiously practicing their letters. It was so nice speaking with you the other day, it read. I hope you’ll make time for me again sometime soon! It was punctuated with a little crooked smiley face that had been crossed out and redrawn, too carefully to look natural. The eyes were perfect, ballpen circles.
