Fics like Daughters of the Forest

A pair of mute girls are left to fend for themselves after their protector dies of pneumonia. In the thick forest, alone and without food, they wander trying to find a safe place with fruit and a river within reach to survive the approaching winter. However, after a young ape finds one of them sleeping on top of a tree trunk, he alerts the ape community about the presence of humans near the clan.
