Fics like A Day at the Draft Office

Henry Woodbury, a young aspiring New York attorney, stands in the crowded hallways of a Manhattan draft office just as the Civil War is igniting in the summer of 1861. His musings on the assemblage of men gathered in the office, their unity and dissonance, their motivations behind sending themselves off to the bloodshed, mark the character of a nation divided by section and political fervor, as the issue of slavery tears the nation in twine. A short historical fiction piece that touches on the topic of soldier's reasons for joining the war.
